How To Activate Office

I have just decided to activate the Microsoft office 2010 programe that came with my Sony Vaio laptop but have the problem of no activation code.What little paperwork that cam with the laptop has nothing like that with it.I have tried the product key on the back but that did nothing.
Does it look like I should go back to the shop that I got the laptop from?
It came with windows preloaded on it so I have no case or anything like that.

Any ideas would be great

Any version of Office that comes pre-installed on a laptop is almost certainly only a trial version (or just one that needs you to purchase the activation key directly). So you're probably going to have to fork out quite a bit of money. Start here:

Or do what most of us around here do and forget all about Microsoft Office. Apache OpenOffice is free and just as good:

Thanks Chris,I like the idea of using something other than a microsoft product.I get the feeling you are right about the trial version,my McAfee trial is about to run out and heaven help me if I don't subscribe NOW!

Just to add to this and say a big thank you to Chris,WOW what an amazing looking programe.I wouldn't know where to start with any of it but I am sure the kids will.
I may not have the 'official' programe that I was supposed to get,but I feel so much better having this one and hope it becomes as popular,if not more,than Office2010.
