What laptop would ABers recommend for the following:
Only needed for surfing the net, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube & email - not used for actual "work" ie no use for Word, Excel etc - but would like the ability to open such files if sent by email. Possible storage of photos.
So relaly just something basic, simple to use, reasonably priced, including virus sofware .................. so ideas please.

The more you pay the faster the CPU, the more memory you get, the larger the hard disk, the better quality build and so on.
But even the cheapest new laptop will do all you want.
My guess is you dont want virus software !!!!!
No laptop will include anti-virus software, expect for a 30 or 60 day trial. But there are plenty of free anti-virus productd around.

Well, I'm currently using my new netbook to type this and it's pretty good.
It can be a little stuttery with video (including Youtube) but not too badly.
It's Samsung N140. I added some more RAM to make it multitask a bit more smoothly.
The advantages of the netbook afaic are that they are internet ready, small and very portable. This one is also very good on battery usage time.
You can pick them up s/h for about £90.

If as you say it's for a 'Silver Surfer' then the bigger the screen the better for possible failing eyesight.
You'll certainly find something within your budget. This might be an answer:-

echokilo.....I feel it is important that I should add to my earlier remarks.
Please Do Not ignore the suggestion from hc4361 because, whilst he has directed you to a smaller screen than I have, the Compaq CQ58 laptop is going to be a more solidly built piece of equipment than the Toshiba Satellite C870 to which I have drawn your attention.
Ideally, if there is a computer store near you, go along and have a look at what is on offer and then post again in regard to any laptop of which you like the look and feel.
