Automated Phone Calls
26 Answers
This is taking it one step too far do you not think? It was annoying enough with actual people calling you up now they are alway automated.
How many other people get these and how often? I have had 2 already today. What are your thoughts on these calls?

I get the automated call saying 'Do not hang up this is important' if it really was important someone in real life/real time would call me.
I just put the phone down. The TPS who I am registered with tell me the calls come from abroad & they can do nothing about it.
It is really annoying when you just sit down to have your tea and you get one of these calls.
The money these companies make is when the recipient complies and presses the relevant number etc etc.

BT has a new phone that blocks nuisance calls, unknown numbers etc.

A BT insider tells me that they could block all these calls with a few days work - it's dead simple to identify auto-diallers & maintain a 'clean list' of ones which are legitimate. Stopping 'hand dialled' spam is trickier, but perfectly possible with a little effort.
There is simply no will to do it though - BT (and the other phone companies) make money from carrying these calls - they are complicit in the fraud that is perpetrated upon the public.
Lobby your MP to get it stopped - not 'regulated' - just flumping well stopped.

I was under the impression it was illegal unless you'd given permission for them to contact you that way, not that it seems to stop any of them, neither does telephone preference stop them all either. If I don't recognise a number I'm liable to just lift and drop the receiver, so I can't count how many I get.
