Hi, was just wondering whether it's possible to get a fairly decent "gaming" PC for £400 pounds, and whether it would be possible to get one with a monitor at this price, as my laptop is pretty rubbish when it comes to these things.

Simple answer is no not really, double your budget and you might be getting close. You might go secondhand for that budget, but that raises risks of buying a 'duff' pc.
I searched Dell for a gaming computer ; here's a link to the results http://search.euro.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=uk&l=en&cs=&k=gaming+computer&;cat=all&ref=ac
Prices for a desktop pc start at £569

You might like to consider a refurbished mac from your local Apple store.

If you already have a desktop you might like to consider using Linux system. You can install it on a thumb drive to carry around with you and you don't need to change anything on your current system - it will work with most pcs including mac. Here's a link to a distrowatch.com search for gaming pc http://distrowatch.com/search.php?ostype=All&category=Gaming&origin=All&basedon=All&notbasedon=None&;desktop=All&architecture=All&status=Active

This is about the best i can find. But don't expect to play games above minimum to medium settings.
£395.00 with no monitor.
