Windows Not Genuine

I have got an notifications that the copy of Windows that is installed on my laptop might not be genuine, this came up after I installed updates. How do I get it back to normal?

You may have to re-register your copy. The licence key will probably be on a sticker somewhere on your computer or in the battery compartment.

There have been quite a few people on the internet getting this problem, on genuine copes of Windows.

Do you get any other text? Does any text mention "Build 7601"

I just followed WyeDyed instructions and did a system restore.

Is that going to fix it? A system restore will take Windows back to how it was before the updates but at some time it will do them again for the same reason that it did them in the first place, unless you change the update settings.

What version of Windows?
Have you 'activated' or registered your Product Key yet?

The problems (and therefore the solutions) are different for Vista and 7.

I would have thought that the Notification would have given you instructions for establishing if your copy of Windows is genuine or not.

Anyway, what Windows are in question (Vista, W7, W8, or what)

I am using windows vista 7.

Alice, I did use a product-key a couple of years ago, it was text-ed to my phone.

Do you think the problem will return the next time I do an up-date?

Click Start then Help & Support. Type in Windows activation in the search box then Enter. In the results click on 'Activate Windows 7 on this computer' Then follow the prompts. It should either say Windows is activated or take you through the procedure to go so.
Updates although downloaded will often fail to be installed on an unregistered version of Windows.

Windows product key should be on a label on your pc somewhere. I'm not sure where you got the phone text from?

If you go to the Microsoft website and put in your problem there is a fix you can download that will fix your issue it is a known problem.

Since I did a system restore I have had no problems and I have done updates without any problems.
