If all else fails, you could try a boot/repair disc that are available from ebay sellers at less than £5.
To use the boot/repair disc, you first have to configure the laptop bios to boot from the CD/DVD drive. The discs contain a number of useful utility programs – but be warned, a number of the programs can wipe the hard drive.
I have used one to good effect when a PC fails to initiate correctly; and you won’t buy a PC repair person’s time for less than £5.
Mmm. Blue screens (however brief) are never good. Is far as I can find out, all the references to that model are for Windows XP.
More bad news, there is no recovery partition on the hard drive.
Before you go into safe mode, are there any options, or does it just head straight there?
I don't know how "computer confident" you are but you could download this handy disk. Boot from the cd that it makes (it even has burning software in the file). Choose the "Mini XP" option.
If it does boot into Mini XP then you can be fairly sure that the hardware is ok; and there is a program called Victoria which will test the hard drive.
If all that checks out then reinstall Windows (check which version that you have the licence for) and it will last for a while longer yet.
Good luck
First, unpack the .zip archive. In there there is a file called BurnCDCC.exe, double click it an it runs the cd burning software.
Off to work now but will check in this evening.
The reason that I'm getting you to do this is to make sure that the lappy is worth saving. You could just re-install it anyway but if you have a flakey hard drive or a dicky motherboard you'll be wasting your time.
