Best Way To Transfer Data Between Phones

I need step by step instructions to transfer data (phone numbers and Pictures mainly) - between my old htc desire and my new iphone 4S. Is there a simple way to do it. I am not really into phone techno;ogy and would appreciate if you can keep it simple

you may find it easier to go into the phone shop you took your contract out with and get them to do it

Have both phones got bluetooth?
If so, simply bluetooth your contacts, pictures, etc from one phone to the other .....

I found an app that does it very well in the end - (2memory) - I did not want to visit local vodaphone shop as the one in Harlow means paying to park and then queueing for rubbish staff that dont have a clue or care very much either (in my experience anyway). Thanks for your help though.
