I need a new digital TV recorder and wonder if anyone can recommend a reasonably priced, reasonably easy to use model?

We don't have Sky, just a regular TV with inbuilt Freeview.

Richers also do Humax- they are a Which? Recommended Retailer and will take time to explain all - without being pushy. I've bought lots of stuff from them over many years and have never been let down. Do you need to keep recordings (like you did with VHS tapes) on DVD? If so, then Panasonic have recording to DVD as well as hard drive. If you don't want to be able to...

I bought ma and pa a Freeview plus one at Christmas. Loads of memory and east to use. Mums 75 and dads 80.

Which model did you buy Zacs?
The freeview plus one. They don't have an HD TV but if you do, I'd recommend that.
Freeview plus is not a make, but a description of the service. If you consider Humax as a make you won't go far wrong. Had one for years, twin tuner, massive hard drive....brilliant bit of kit.
Question Author
Samsung? humax? Sony? LG? Panasonic.

Can anyone recommend a particular freeview + recorder?
I thought I just did but never mind. Humax do have a website to check models and specs and you can get them online from many retailers.

Thanks Postdog, I was typing as you posted, sorry I'll take a look at the Humax website. My hitachi is playing up; the recordings are sometimes jumping or its been recording sound and no picture, or not recording at all.
Seeing how you have inbuilt freeview, are you after a freeview recorder, or just a recorder ??
We have a Toshiba DVD/hard drive/VHS recorder - no freeview, just a recorder.
It records from our freeview or Virgin box (whichever we set it to record) and we can also copy from any one of the formats, to any one of the others, i.e. we can copy VHS videos to DVD or to the hard drive, etc.

Hi Giz, i'm sure I just need a recorder and will have a look at Toshiba option too. I just don't understand the difference between all the models and the wide range of prices from tens of punds up to hundreds of pounds.

I could do with knowing the make and model of an easy to use affordable option.

There are so many to chose from!

Can anyone suggest a basic reasonably reliable model?

Direct from Humax - reduced price for 'graded' (but mine was effectively brand new) - the best HD recorder

Maydup...I'd go with Humax without a doubt. I have the PVR-9200T.
I have also found them really good to deal with on the phone.
Postdog - if Freeview isn't a product what are the things for sale on my link? I do wish people would get their facts straight befor making an eejit of themselves which also missleads the original poster.

Your link takes you to a list of makes and models of recording devises Zacs. I was wondering which one you went for and whether other people could tell me which ones they have and are happy with.

Otherwise I'm staring at them unable to distinguish one from the other just as I am in Argos or John Lewis. Which one should I go for.?
Yes Maydup - all made by FREEVIEW. they are a company in their own right. Dont know why I bothered.

No need to be rude Zacs, I'm trying very hard not to be.

I just asked if you could remember which box on the list you went for? They are all recommended by Freeview, but there are still lots to choose from.

I recently bought the Panasonic DMREX773 mr from Richer Sounds. I was a bit limited because it had to be multi regional but I would have bought Panasonic anyway. I'm very happy with it so far. Easy to record and play back. I had an LG one before and I had nothing but trouble with it from the start - it was a pleasure to take it to the dump!
Sigh. They're not recommended by freeview they are Freeview. They're made by (or for probably) freeview. They say Freeview on them in the same way Humax ones say Humax on them.

As for the type, you may note in my second reply I said:
'The freeview plus one. They don't have an HD TV but if you do, I'd recommend that'

LOL and sigh back at you Zacs. you having me on?!

There's a Goodmans Freeview+ a Logik and Bush Freeview+, all listed on that site. My current one says Freeview + and its a Hitachi for goodness sake! But its bust and I haven't been happy with it.

Thanks 237 I'll avoid the LG and browse the Panasonics.
Maydup: you sussed ZM did you? Don't know where he's got his (mis)information from! Panasonic-good choice and Richer sounds is a very good place to buy, if there's one near you.
