my laptop has stopped displaying anything except a white pointer on a dark background.even in safe mode, should I format it. I have windows vista home premium.

Hi Dotty.... I guess you are Not using your laptop at present to post into AB. Please give a few more facts.

Are you able to get onto the Internet by any means with your laptop; or is it refusing to go beyond 'white pointer on a dark background'. What Browser are you using.? I hope you don't say that it is Internet Explorer, because I often find that I am unable to understand its idiosyncrasies.

When you got the laptop did you create a rescue disk? Have you got a Windows Vista Install disk + product key code?

So, you have no desktop, no taskbar and if you press the Windows button on your keyboard nothing happens?

Acer has a built in recovery programme but I don't know how to get at it

I've gone with f7 and running windows memory diagnostics , no idea why lol

don't know if this will work, i found it doing a search ...

ALT+F10
tap both while booting computer
press enter at the "edit boot options" screen
select "restore to factory defaults"
