does any body know how much the new PS3 is going to cost when it's released in march next year?

k i can sort of give you an answer for this i read on www.wanadoo.co.uk that the new playstation is is going to be a hell of a price. sony say they r not going to be aiming the new playstation 3 at the normal household. this is because of the new blue lazer that is being used. so if any one that comes on this site works for sony, then who is going to be buying the playstation3. as sony thought of that.

it is priced in the us at $499 which usually means that it will be �499 over here.i think microsoft tricked sony into making a console that is too powerful and out of many peoples price range.sony have defended the price by saying that the console will last for 10 yrs.

microsoft could well take a major market share from sony especially with the xbox 360 due out in november this year for �299 and the ps3 not due till summer '06.

both parties will sell their consoles at a loss but microsoft will lose a fraction of what sony will per console and there is a chance that ps3 games maybe more expensive as they are using a brand new format(blu ray) and this is usually where the manufacturers make their money.

microsoft bought out the company making the chips for its console and are designing them specifically for the 360 which is expensive in design but cheaper in production whereas sony are buying chips that were more aimed towards PC machines and are adapted to consoles that saves designing a brand new chip but costs a bit more as they are buying the chips and that buying incorporates a small amount to the manufacturer that Microsoft wouldnt have to pay out.

Microsoft believe that they can sell their machine for $399 US and �299-�349 UK and make a loss but make it up in hardware sales until the costs come down further.

Sony however cant afford to make too much of a loss as the machine is believed to be to have so much new technology that it costs close to $700 a machine to produce, to even sell it at $499 is still a huge loss and althought they havent revealed the price they have said it will be the most expensive on the market.

Games Price- Microsoft believe the majority will remain the same as current brand new titles with a few exceptions (maybe halo3) as the discs are only HD-DVD and cheaper but less advanced as blue ray so able to keep costs down.

Sony has Blue ray costs, losses on high costing consoles to bridge so have already warned that games could be possibly $10 more than current PS2 new titles, and maybe more. They believe the UK could be �49.99 or even �59.99 for new titles .

the console prices will not be as expensive as you think. they'll perhaps be as expensive as quoted above for the first month or two, but then they'll drop. especially the PS3. regardless of what they say the console is aimed at, its still a games console.

they're only calling it a "computer" to try and get a cheaper inport rate in Europe and some other places (they tried this with the PS2 but failed I believe).

sure it is powerful, but unless developers can tap that power, it doesn't really matter. xbox360 will be far easier to tap. but I still think the PS3 will be better.

prices: I'm thinking �299 for xbox360, and �349 for PS3. both to drop by �50 within 3 months.

have just checked u.s. market rumours and speculation says that ps3 will cost �399 so i was a tad high.

you are right tho,prices will inevitably drop but not within a month or so as that will effect market confidence.xbox360 has no competition for at least 7-8 months and microsoft have admitted themselves that sales will be slow at first but they will have the advantage of having price on their side and also their trump card is halo 3 being released the same day as the ps3 so expect an xbox360 + halo3 bundle in the shops next summer !

dont forget halo movie is being rushed into development with a 75million budget minimum for when the PS3 goes to launch!

I have just looked on the web site you looked on and it said $300.

Don't forget PS2s were nearly �300 when it first came out and it took nearly 2 years before any 'decent' games to be produced.
