some cosmetic changes, such as no pleasant startup screen (you have to enter usename yourself).

more advanced security/network feature, and a few more things. basically its windows2000pro with an updated driver set and cosmetic changes.
One of the main differences is IIS which means you can use your PC as a server and do websitey things.

XP Pro is designed for corporate network environments. There is some increased functionality to the local PC (ie. the way the hard disks are recognised, IIS and various security file security features). From the network side of things, XP Pro allows remote control (as does XP Home) but there is more functionality that network administrators need.

For normal Home users, XP Home is ideal, Pro will do everything the same + more. For businesses, you need to go with Pro.
