When opening a photo from a folder in the above prog how do you get rid of the dark grey framing/surround?? Thanks.

I'm not certain what you mean here, but is it possible just to click on "Full screen" or something? Or just click and drag the surrounding frame in to where you want it to be?

Sorry if I'm going in completely the wrong direction here; I'm assuming you're talking about Photoshop?
I don't use 'Elements' 'cos I've I've got an old, but 'full' version of Photoshop. However it's likely that the technique will be the same anyway.

i.e: Select the magnification tool (the magnifying glass). Right-click on the image and select 'Fit image to screen'.

Thanks to you both I tried your method Chico,it doesn't get rid of the framing completely but it takes up much less of the screen and therefor less obvious

While you are both there I am trying to use the rect. marquee tool to frame part of the photo but all I am getting is a small rect. that I can't adjust in size.Any ideas please.

Thanks Chico I've been mulling through some videos on youtube and found where I was going wrong.
