loose / damaged bearings on the drum. I had an old Bosch machine that sounded like that and it was the drum bearings.
it's probably some item in the mechanism - a 5p, a cufflink, a bra underwire
Mine does that, I just pretend I can't hear it and hope the happy pixies fix it.
Has Eddie say's, most likely the drum bearings are on there way out.
Probably some coins have been washed down between the rubber seal and the drum, or as bednobs says a bra wire, which eventually cost me an arm and a leg for a new (Bosch) machine. Get an engineeer in.
