Transfering E-Books

My grandaughter got an e-reader at Xmas and her friend has some e-books she wants to send to it.
How would one do this?

the friend needs to put them on a disk/stick. GDaughter needs to plug stick/disc into computer and transfer files to it. Then plug ereader into comp and transfer files to ereader

Can she send them as attachments in email?
