I am looking to buy a reasonably priced DVD player that will play both reion 1 (USA) & region 2 (GB) DVDs. Any recommendations please.

Google "region free" or "multi region" such as this one ...........

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

It's possible to hack a region 2 to get over it, but they're all so cheap now, it's really not worth it.

Both answers recommended the same dvd player, so have ordered one from Amazon. Wish me luck with connecting it, as won't have a clue.
