Maydup has provided the correct link for getting rid of Norton.
I've never even heard of Wajam but their website seems to provide the information you need:

Last year, after MSE failed several independent tests, Microsoft admitted that it's not as good as they'd like it to be. Consider something else instead, such as Avast!

Thanks for your prompt and very helpful responses Maydup and Buenchico. I will settle for windows defender ( not only was machine loaded Norton, salesman tried to sell me McAfee too!) Do I need to install any other security? I have downloaded Firefox in preference to Internet Explorer and set up a required Live email as I have a fairly new Windows 8 phone too

It's a good idea to install the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. (When installing, take care to deselect the option to try a free trial of the full 'PRO' version). It only runs 'on demand', rather than 'in the background', so you need to remember to run a 'quick' scan once every few weeks. (NB: 'Quick' often means longer than half an hour!)
