The WLAN light will not come on the Router.
This means the laptop will not work wireless.
The laptop will work when it is wired using the yellow ethernet cable.
The router has been working ok for a long time wirelessly so this light not working is new.
Any ideas why it should not light up and affect the wireless connection?

I had the same thing happen with my router. It turned out that the power supply was failing and not giving enough for full function. I replaced it an all good now.
It may be something else but I like to start at the cheap end. :)

Thank you DOUGLAS9401.
The power socket is ok - I checked the Router on another socket where it worked ok-but again without the LVAN light working.
Check your router settings. It is possible to switch off the 'wireless' option on some routers as I found out the hard way when my young cousin had a 'fiddle'!
What in the model name / number of the router?

Thank you SLACKALICE AND PINKYBOYID.
The Router is: D-Link. DSL - 2640R.
The problem could be either the Router Wireless settings have somehow changed or that the Wireless WLAN module is broken / defunct. If broken then you are probably going to need a replacement router for wireless access!

First check is to determine if the wireless settings have changed by logging onto the router which requires a router Admin userid and password to gain access. As this process is likely to be somewhat technical it may be worth seeking assistance from whoever initially setup your router.

For example, using your Computer web browser enter the web address:

http//:192.168.1.1

This should present the Router logon page. I believe The default userid name is 'admin' and password 'admin' but this may have changed depending on how it was first configured. The userid / password maybe be printed on the side of the router along with other details for the wireless configuration such as SSID name / Password.

Further examples of the router menu setup system are available here:

Thank you again PINKYBOYID.
I didn't mean the socket llamekuf, I meant the small transformer pack with the trailing lead that plugs into the router. They can become 'weak'.
