Password For Windows/hotmail

Have been getting the odd message on screen to say that firefox has stopped running--(I click back to desk top and all is fine once more.) However a strange thing has just happened---screen froze and windows (8) had to shut down. to restart at the "mineret" picture, it wouldn't accept my "windows" password but when I entered my "hotmail" password [which is completely different]--I got through????
