i have something which isn´t a virus or a trojan, and seems impossible to shift. its called websearchs. it cant be found in my control panel either.

would it be an idea to search your programme files to see if its in there?

From what you said about Extensions, it appears you have your Avast disabled which could be the reason you have picked up an 'intruder'.

i do have windows firewall, when i tried to download hitman, i said i had windows 7/ 32 bit

i searched my programme file, its not there

chris... i am even more confused. you´ve told me how to turn off & turn on my firewall, and asked me what type of avast ive got, well ive got the free version.

Maybe this is just a simple case of websearch being set as your default search tool, or one of the search tools, or as your home page.
I had this with something like nusearch once. Look in your browser settings and use Tools or Settings
