Phone And Camera Chargers

If the connector on the end of the cable is identical ie micro usb type, will any charger be safe to charge the camera or phone?

Short answer.......No. It is important that the correct voltage is applied to all electrically/battery operated items and chargers vary in their output from AC to DC current.

I have one charger plugged in that i use for my phone, kindle, camera and my hubbys phone... they all charge perfectly well.

@knowabit......Perhaps all the items require the same charge. If Not, there is going to be a failure at some point in time.

I thought that with my scanner. Plugged it in and there was a puff of smoke. Lifted it and ran outside into the garden where I left it till I was sure it was safe, then took it to the recycling centre.
Don't take any chances.

I have a different charger for my iPhone and my iPad. If I used the iPhone charger for the iPad, it would take 3-4 times as long to charge.

I tried to charge an electric cigarette battery off an old charger cos they looked the same-wow that was a bad move.The battery got so hot within seconds,gave a pop and a puff of smoke and that was the end of that,and the charger.I think I was lucky there where no nasty chemicals given off-or if there was they where not too bad.
I know it is so tempting to charge things off the same charger but I will check the voltage and think twice before trying that again.

If you're thinking of using an alternative charger (and you established that the connector is the same) you need to check whether AC or DC is required/supplied (although I'd be surprised if you actually found an AC device or charger). Then, assuming that it's DC, you need to check that the voltage is the same AND that the polarity is the same. Lastly you'd need to check that the current rating of the replacement charger is the same, or greater than, the current required to charge the device.
