Little booklet came with it and just said how to get started ie plug into computer - that was it.

Does the kindle do more than let you read books - if so, can you advise - TIA

the Kindle fire is - that is a tablet
the paperwhite is an e-reader primarily

The paperwhite is only an ereader,bit has limited internet capability so that you can connect to Amazon to view/buy books. I love mine.
