You should be able to boot directly from the cd. Check your bios settings (press F2 or F8 - sorry can't remember which) and make sure your cd rom is set as bootable.
On the POST screen, press the DEL key repeatedly to enter the BIOS.(This is sometimes a Function key but it will inform you of this on the POST screen) Select Boot Sequence from the menu and alter your first Boot Device to the CD-ROM.Restart your laptop with the Installation disk in it and it should boot from the CD and iinstall Windows. Remember to return the Boot Sequence to normal when you are done.
when you start your computer and the windows xp comes up with the scrolling bar under it, repeatedly press F 2 until you see that it goes into setup. then select boot sequence and press enter then uncheck everything but cd. then hit escape and ok to save changes and exit. remember to  go back into setup to put those settings back the way they were.

sorry, you need to press F2 before that screen comes up.
