need a new one, can anyone suggest a good one, preferably one that actually does what it says, as mine doesn't, its adequate no more. I am now unable to move well, bend, so anything where i don't have to do it much.
good make, best picker uper, if you know what i mean,
also a good carpet sweeper, same principle, as i just killed the one i have by shaking, and it promptly fell apart.
Get a Ge Tech Ram. Rechargeable, in readily easy to use and carry. Look for the video ad. I think it's brilliant. And because it's cordless... no bending down and messing with plugs and cables. Go for it! And if you are my sort of age ...it's incomparable. Also look it up on John Lewis web site and read the reviews! You won't regret it. Also handle on stem position...
sorry Tony, thanks for the help guys, i have spent a fairly arduous time trying to get this wretched carpet clean, having to move the sofa and all that, hell.
LB, thank you - i am trying to find types where i don't have to bend much
emptying i know, but the actual moving it around, i don't do vacuum often, its not a good job, but the carpet looks a mess
I have a hand held Dyson, its marvellous and its all I need, I paid a bit extra for the pet hair one as it has a stronger suction but that's my choice, if there was a house fire I would go back for it !

I have a sore back and find that if you hoover by pulling it towards you instead of pushing it forward it works just as well and you don't have to bend.
What ever you do DON'T get a Dyson, overpriced and poor cleaning and unreliable. Not for nothing are they better known as a Diesoon. If you really want one just vist your local tip, they will have a skip full of them!
I have one of these for when I don't want to lug the big vacuum about. It works great as a handheld...a strong little machine...good on both carpet and hard floors.
I love my dyson, I think they're like marmite...love 'em or hate 'em!
I gave my first dyson to my son when he moved into his own place nine years ago and it's still going strong strong, I'd already had it for years then. I then bought myself a new one. Never had any problems with either, the suction is great, lifts anything and everything, it's the only brand I would ever buy.
ethelburga, i have just reserved a G Tech sweeper, that will suffice for the moment, it looks the business, lets hope it does it.
so will collect later, looks light enough to carry home
Henry seems a good buy, but i really think i need a fairly lightweight upright, i have a pull you along hoover, another waste of money, its adequate, but doesn't get the little bits up things like cotton threads,
Latest Which? report is what you need....best uprights are Miele, Dyson and Sebo. Best "cylinders" are Miele and Bosch. Numatics (Henry/Hetty) aren't very good and Vax are dire ("don't buys").
