. . . which, of course, is wholly owned by BT!
However you're not alone. The latest Ofcom report states:
"The providers covered here are BT Retail, Sky, TalkTalk Group, Virgin Media and EE. BT generated the highest relative volume of complaints and these related to service faults and complaints handling. EE and TalkTalk Group also received above industry average complaint levels whilst Sky and Virgin Media generated complaint volumes below the industry average. Virgin Media received the lowest relative complaint volumes compared to the other fixed broadband providers that we report on".

Don't get me wrong - I hate BT with a vengeance - they are a pile of corporate poo, with the customer care attitude of Attila the Hun.
But ... if your problems have developed because of a network fault, then whoever you are with must use the same cable from the exchange to your house ... and the fault will remain.

You haven't actually specified your problem.
Do a bt speedtest - then select the further diagnostics.
Post the results on here.
I've been doing this today with a friend on Plusnet.
As has been stated, unless you have cable, you will be using BT's wiring to your exchange. Then you will be using the BT equipment at the exchanges, unless your provider is unbundled, in which case they will have their equipment at the exchange.

I had to get the ombudsman involved to sort out BT's incompetence. BT may be the fastest but if the customer support isn't there then what is the point? My internet is now provided by a small firm in Dundalk, they are not the cheapest but I still get the fastest broadband that is available in this area and their customer service is fantastic. They are called Digiweb. Would recommend to anyone.
I don't have BT but am annoyed that they haven't bothered to install Fibre where I live despite promising to do so by the end of 2013 If I lived in the middle of nowhere I could understand it but I live in one of the most densely populated places in the UK and all other exchanges nearby are fibre enable d- they really want customers like me -not - miss the best ISP BE Broadband who were bought by Sky to close them down I was with BE over 6 years and never had a problem once
