My son downloaded McAfee onto my computer last night to help protect me from this scary virus the papers are writing about. However, this morning all the sites I like, especially this one, are taking ages to open and when they do finally open, it takes a while before I can scroll up and down. Is the McAfee searching everything in great depth before letting me open it?

Did you already have an anti virus installed ? If so running two is not advised and they could be clashing.
....and McAfee is probably the worst performing security software you can get....now owned by Intel.
Mcafee slowed my PC up no end, drove me batty. Lyn, maybe it's doing a scan?
I hope your son has only downloaded a Free Trial and has not purchased anything, when there are lots of free Anti Virus programmes available.

McAfee is well known for slowing down computers. :-

Serious question...does that really matter Methyl when it's only happened since the download?
My laptop came with a free month of McAfee installed and, having researched it with Which magazine, i kept it on. I have renewed it since and don't believe that my laptop is any slower than others.

Thanks all. My son popped round just now and removed the McAfee. All is back to normal!
I approve of McAfee being removed . However, I do hope your son has installed another Virus Protection Programme, such as Avast, AVG, MSE or some other free download.

I use Spybot.

Microsoft scans take forever and never find anything.
AVG keeps pestering you and interruptswhat you're doing.
Some others claim to have found millions of problems but are only trying to make themselves look clever.
Others only clean up 10% of what they claim to have found - unless you pay, so they're not free.
There are only 2 for me which actually do what they are supposed to, Superantivirus and Malwarebytes both free & they work a treat for me.

Thanks methyl. I still think a lot of others are time-wasters, while ones that come to your attention from a sudden "virus alert!" are malevolent.

Methyl, is it worth the trouble to find a way to delete the Delta (linked to Google Chrome) that gets picked up on scans but resists deletion? Or just regard it as harmless and leave it ?
Don't mention Google Chrome to me. In fact don't even mention Google.

I have got rid of all in my computer which is associated with Google. I no longer 'Google' I 'Bing' or 'Duck Duck Go' or even use the unfortunately named Search Engine.....'Dogpile'...which is far from crap.

Have always used McAfee with no problems. Yes, I pay for it-but it only works out at £1.15 a week and that covers our 3 laptops. Maybe I could get something else free-but I prefer to pay. Each to their own. Never understood how these free sites work-just how are they funded?
