No sound on Messaging or FaceTime, although buttons switched on at corner, and sound on. Anything in Settings I can try? So I get Messages, but don't hear them coming, and miss my Facetime calls. Thanks all

By the way I can hear keys when typing, and can get sound on YouTube etc.
Settings
General
Use side switch - set to lock rotation, it's probably on mute.
Question Author
Thanks rocky, it was on mute, lets see what happens when someone messages me .....
Should be ok now, got to Youtube and pull a video up, you'll know you have sound them.

Rocky I had sound on youtube before. But now I cant rotate my screen .. I want to rotate my screen as well as be able to hear messaging and emails and facetime coming through... Why is it one or the other??
Switch the side switch up so that it's neither locked or on mute.

At the moment in Settings General, the blue tick has to be in either Lock Rotation or Mute. Sorry to be so thick I cant understand this..
Question Author
Should I switch something off in Control Centre? Both settings are switched to green.

Me again, I have just 'swiped up from the bottom' and volume was off so I switched on. Still confused about lock rotation and mute ... Blue tick still on Mute so I can rotate.
When you operate the sound on your ipad there are 3 places that I know of. The sound control on the side of the machine. The sound control at the top of the 'Settings' 'sounds' page and then also on individual apps. So go into your iMessage & FaceTime apps via settings to see if you can set the sound there. When you use 'you tube' you can control it there also. Some other sites are also the same as 'you tube'
Smurf, on my settings, lock rotation is selected and I keep the side switch up, this allows me to hear sounds and rotate. If I flick the switch down then I can't rotate. When the switch is down it will do whatever is selected in settings, mute or lock screen
Sorry, meant to add that I tried synamores suggestion about going into the iMessage and FaceTime setting but can find nothing to do with sound.
