Thank you once again Buenchico as I downloaded that Irfanview as you recommended and on opening with it was able to pint the picture. Is there any way that I can make that the standard view when opening any photo rather than having to do each picture as I open them. The reason I had not done this on your first prompt was when I went to Download it it just seemed so daunting for a person my age but thanks again and to all the other posters for the replies to the original question at that seemed to have been due to my not having the box ticked to allow Windows select a drver.
To set Irfanview as your default image viewer/editor (if you didn't allow it to be so when you installed it), go to 'My Pictures' (or anywhere else you've got some image files stored) and right-click on any such file. Select 'Open with'. You'll probably see Irfanview offered to you but do NOT (initially) click on it. Instead click on 'Choose program'. Then put a tick against 'Always use this program to open this type of file', click on Irfanview, then on OK. In future all your pictures will then open automatically in Irfanview.
