Rather than clicking on a link from a pop-up, an excellent program that you might want to consider is the free Driver Booster. I've used it for the last couple of years and it's very good.

thanks for nice info
it is not free
thanks
It is free and is what I have installed - there is also a version there that you pay for but ignore that and simply download the free one.

I also use the FREE version of iobit's "driver booster". Recommended.
I'd also like to know which drivers it is saying need updating. Full quote on the pop up please.
I think the answer is, "it depends".

I get warnings from something running in the background related to my graphics board, that I suppose I should prevent running, that tells me that, that has updated the driver, and I tend to trust that. But more generally I tend to be suspicious of unexpected warnings and would run scans to ensure that the PC wasn't infected.

If in doubt, don't update.

There's lots of things that methyl wouldn't touch with a bargepole, it seems!
I started to use it when it was "highly recommended" by Computeractive magazine and find the free version of several of their software products to be excellent. They were downloaded from a Computeractive link and contain no adware.
