DVD Copy Code?

Hi, If you copy a Region 1 DVD with a program such as DVD cloner 2, will it make it multi regional so you can play it in any DVD player or will it stay Region 1. I have a Region 2 DVD player. Any ideas?

not familiar with that particular program, but most either made it region 0 (region free) by default, or have an option to do so. keep in mind that copying dvds you dont hold the copyright to is illegal, however.

Hi fo3nix, Thanks for the advice. I believe you are allowed to back up your own dvd's as long as they are for your own use (To stop the kids from ruining them for instance). In my case however, I merely want to change the region code so I can watch a couple of dvd's that a friend of mine bought me back from America. I dont want to buy a new player so am trying to find ways I can get around the region 1 code. I cant get on with watching them on the computer so any ideas apart from copying?

Well, firstly, I can confirm that copying is illegal here in the UK. We don't have a "private use" clause like other countries such as the US or France that allows us to copy copyrighted material even if it's for our own use. I don't agree with it, but that's the law, strictly speaking.

As for other ways of getting around the region codes, do your kids by any chance happen to have a PS2? Not that it can play multi-region DVDs out of the box, but there is legal software for it called DVDRegionX, which costs less than a tenner at most online retailers and will allow you to play DVDs from any region you choose on the PS2. It works as well - have one myself.

magicbeatle - depending on which player you have, a lot of them have "handset hacks" that enable multi-region functioning, even on players that are supposedly region 2 only!

E.g. I bought a �50 Aiwa Region 2 player a while ago, tapped in a few codes and voila, region free!  The exact same player with multi-region already enabled was selling for �100!

Hi, Thanks for the advice everyone. My DVD player is a Bush model, but does not have that handset capability you mention. I will look into the ps2 idea, we were thinking of getting one anyway. I have had the DVD's for over a year now, and have been itching to watch them. When my current player eventually konks out I will buy a multi-regional one. Thanks everyone, you have been a great help!

The sounds gone on my computer, although I tried to watch them on my computer before it went but couldnt get on with it because I cant relax properly in the room where my computer is.
