Google Earth

I downloaded Google Earth the other night after an AB recommendation - I must say that it's incredible. Didn't know this sort of thing existed.

Being curious though, I wondered if anyone else has tried to find Area 51 and where on Google Earth it is. I know its just north of Las Vegas and I've found a big white blur....could this be it?? Or am i the only one weird enough to search???

It includes Area 51 which is at Groom Lake in Nevada. Dload the file and double click with Google earth open and it takes you to the location.

I entered the coords 37 14n 115 49w and went straight there.

Well I'm satisfied that place is totally dodgy...is that the longest runway you're ever seen or what.

Any more interesting places you're found?

A lot of UFO websites describe the runway as the world's longest, with some saying it is 12 miles in length. I measured it at 4.5 miles (paved) with a possible 1.5 mile run-off.

I agree that it's incredible but he 'tilt' is totally fake.

Have a look at www.googleearthhacks.com which has loads of interesting stuff, including up to date overlays of the hurricane damage.
It has some stuff on Area 51, including nearby nuclear test craters.
You could waste a day or two with this site & google earth.
