Shutting Down My Laptop

Every evening (without exception) when I shut down my computer I get a message telling me that another programme is running and giving me the option of either force closing or cancelling the programme and trying again. My problem is what programme is running and how do I find it and uninstal it. The browser (mozilla Firefox) has already been closed and nothing is showing on screen to in dicate that anything else is running. I sometimes get a second message telling me that the task window is ...... and then it vanishes off screen. Computer eventuallly closes after about 3 minutes. I am using Windows 7 home edition. Any advise would be welcome

Open the task manager to see what is running

Firefox often continues running 'invisibly' for quite some time (often several minutes) after you think that you've closed it.

As you come towards the end of a browsing session, open the Task Manager (via right-clicking on the toolbar at the foot of your screen) and select 'Processes'. Click on Firefox.exe to highlight it (simply so that you can easily see it in the list).

Then close Firefox and wait to so just how long Firefox.exe remains listed in Task Manager as a running process. I can almost guarantee that it will be there for several minutes before it finally disappears!

thank U for your prompt reply. will be putting your theory to the test. I am also going to see if it happens with IE 11, and Chrome. Will keep you informed

As promised an update. Followed your instructions to the letter and when I shut down my laptop had a message saying couldnt close because Task Manager was running. Cancelled that and tried again to shut down. Closed normally. Have used both IE 11 and Goodle Chrome and both times laptop closed down normally and much more quickly.
