Digital Bedside Clock

Stupid question i know but i want to take my clock on holiday using the battery back up but after putting brand new battery in i turn off the electricity the battery doesnt kick in , i cant think what im doing wrong or what i can do any differently! Any suggestions ?

I can't explain why the battery isn't kicking in. Perhaps a dud battery.

However I don't think it is any use to you on holiday unless you are sure you can plug it in.

I think the battery is just there to hold the time during a power cut, not to operate the clock for a significant length of time.

A bit more information would be useful - make and model of clock, LCD or LED display, battery type etc.

Is it in the right way round?
Is there a plastic seal on the battery terminal?

Although you can't see it working (ie see the display) the battery is actually working the clock if it's like ours. When you plug it back in the clock will show the right time. So I think you will find it needs to be plugged in - the battery is only supposed to keep the clock "ticking along" till the electric returns.
That's what ours does anyway - yours may be diff - apologies if I'm wrong!

Thanks for all the suggestions i think i will have to think of something else , i just dont like leaving my phone or tablet on charge all night ,thanks again all

You can buy a travel alarm clock for less than a fiver.

I'm unsure what leaving a phone (presumably mobile) charging all night has to do with the OP. Nor why it is a concern.

Some mobiles will run sufficient that they turn themselves on when the alarm time comes up even though they were "off" at the time anyway. Why not just use the alarm on the mobile and if concerned simply leave it on, and not charge it overnight ?
