Please can anyone tell me whether I need both of these installed or will Spyware Doctor cover all the anti-virus needs as well?  Cheers!

I'm pretty sure that Spyware Doctor doesn't cover viruses. I've downloaded trial versions of it in the past and it seems focused on malware. So make sure you retain Norton AntiVirus.

I hope you haven't paid for Spyware Doctor though, because there are some equally effective free spyware solutions currently available. Not that SD isn't good, but it's not good enough to be worth paying for in my opinion.

Thanks for the info.  I've just downloaded AVG 6.0 (free version) for the anti-virus cover as my Norton is due to run out during the next week. Do you think this is good enough? (I've read mixed reviews on Norton).  As for Spyware Doctor - unfortunately I did pay for this but won't be renewing as it seems as though there are several better alternatives for spyware (pity I've only just discovered this website as it is a good source of info).

I have the full Spyware Doctor and don't rate it as highly as the Aluria product. Just to add something fran, you can have as many anti-spyware programs as you wish, but only one anti-virus - so make sure it's a very good one.

Avast and AVG are both excellent, but like anything else you get what you pay for, so sometime in the future you might want to buy something like Panda Titanium for peace of mind. The best and easiest to use (in my personal opinion) on the market.

Surprised that you managed to get AVG 6.0, I don't think it is supported with upgrades now. AVG has a free version of V.7.0. I use Microsoft Anti-Spy and Spybot Search an Destroy. Also have BitDefender on one machine.
