You advised me to install Malewarebytes a couple of months ago, it helped rid me of pop ups, ads etc. it has now expired and keeps asking to pay for protection. Any advice on what to do next please, think my laptop needs another clean up, thanks.

You didn't opt for the FREE version, did you? Just the free trial of the paid-for one....
Question Author
free trial I think.
could you uninstall it then reinstall and opt for the free version?
There's your issue. You may be able to downgrade it to the free version. But if all else fails, uninstall and reinstall the free version rather than the free trial version.
Look at the original answer, and follow the instructions TO THE LETTER!

How about paying for it Mailwarebytes got you and a whole lot of others out of trouble is it not worth a few quid just for that
At the end of the install of malwarebytes there is an option to have a trial of the paid for version.

This is ticked ON by default and if you don't untick it you get a trial of the paid for version.

Make sure you UNTICK the trial for the paid for version.

Note the free version does NOT run in the background, you have to run it manually. This also means that you may get malware on your PC and only discover it when you run the free version.

you not need to pay for it unless your a business man, the average home user need not pay for any protection from virus / malware
ivor...I think you are missing the point of Noe's answer...
did i ?
From my original post:
NB: During the installation process you'll be offered a free trial of the Premium version. The box will be pre-ticked. Click to remove that tick!

To fix the problem now, download and run this file:
http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_clean
(It's the official tool for completely uninstalling Malwarebytes Anti-Malware).

Then RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. (That's IMPORTANT!)

Then download and install the FREE version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again, this time taking great care to remove the tick that I told you about!!!
https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/

NB: There's an important difference between the Premium version (which you've been using as a free trial) and the free version. The Premium version 'runs in the background', so that it's always looking for anything nasty which is trying to find its way onto your computer. The free version is only 'run on demand', so it will do absolutely NOTHING unless you remember to run it occasionally. (I suggest once per fortnight or, of course, immediately if you suspect that there's some malware on your computer).
