Hi I am on Firefox.many thanks
Well I'm still confused!

Are you simply trying to view a Google map in your web browser or are you, for example, trying to download the Google Earth software?

What do you actually do in an attempt to achieve whatever it is that you're after and what then happens?

sorry Google Earth download.

Oh just one more thing I did have XP but put on windows 8...would that make any difference?
Hmmm.

The standalone program for Google Earth seems to only be supported by Windows XP, Vista and 7. (I'm amazed that Windows 8 isn't shown but it's definitely not listed!):
https://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/earth/download/ge/agree.html

However the preferred option now seems to be to use the browser plug-in:
https://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/earth/explore/products/plugin.html

If one option isn't working for you, why not try the other?
^^^ Crossed posts but I might have answered your question anyway! The system requirements for Google Earth (as a standalone program) don't mention Windows 8. Try the browser plug-in instead.
