when i click on updates in the control panel
the window freezes
i have to click restart to boot up

try typing windows update troubleshooter in to google

Try emptying windows/softwaredistribution/download folder

Sometime firefox just needs to be updated

I'll put this back onto Latest Posts for you henry in the hope that ukbod or someone else who can help sees it.
But first I'd try updating firefox.
(By the way, were you once the user millerxxx?)

i used to be millerxxx
when i had xp
that laptop kaput now

go to the start menu click on all programs click on accessories then windows explorer - ( explorer is a file manager ) in the left hand window click on C drive - in the right hand window click on windows then scroll down to software distribution and then download - then in that folder delete everything.
Shut it all back down and then go to windows update on the start menu and all should be well.
