can somebody please explain the difference in the following IEEE standards:(if thats what they are called)
802.11,802.11g,802.11a,802.16, and anymore i have missed
What they do and when to use them would be nice!

802.11 is often referred to as WiFi.
I believe 802.11b has a transfer rate of 12Mbps. the g standard has it set to 54Mbps. However, when you consider that the average broadband internet connection in the UK right now is probably 1Mbps, if doesn't make much difference currently (in terms of speed alone).
