You AB'ers will recognise my name and my infatuation with my lack of skill with layers.I'm trying to add text to photos using layers just as a lesson, but I've found that with certain piccies in my folders this works ok but with others it won't,there is no apparent reason for this.Once again can anyone shed some light on this please

what program are you suing and what precisely are you doing?
All I can suggest - flying blind - is that you need to see a list of the layers you have made, and make sure you are either in a new layer for adding text.

I'm using PSE7 with Vista.I'm just trying to get used to layer by adding titles to certain photos. The ones that work come out the correct font size that is set.But those that don't come out extremely small. Thanks for your replies.
are you adding a blank layer to add the text on? Make sure the dpi of the blank layer and your photo are the same
by DPI I mean resolution.
Question Author
Yes woolfgang I am adding a blank layer, but could you please explain how to do the second half of your reply.Thanks.
hang on.....
ok open your picture then do Image, resize, image size. make a note of the width and length and change the resolution to 300 pixels (dots) per inch. Then create a new layer and try adding the text. adjust the size of the text in the text control panel. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks woofgang(spelt it right]it did the trick, can you explain why the resolution makes the difference, just for interests sake. Thanks again !!!
The default (what you get if you don't change it) resolution of new layers in PSE is 300 dpi. the photo that you open from your saved images might not be 300 dpi. While the layers might look the same size, in fact they wont be the same. If you put text in at 72 points it will look smaller against a photo layer which has 300 dpi than one that has 200 dpi.

Thanks again I get the idea now.I noticed after changing one of the photos to 300dpi I had to go back to it later and it had changed back to72 dpi.Can the 300dpi be made the default res??
I wouldn't monkey with your originals. Load the photo, change the res then save that as a copy under a different name.
