My Freeview box is giving up the ghost and I'm thinking of getting another. The choice out there is rather large.
Any recommendations?

I suggest looking for a Freeview HD box, even if you've not got an HD-ready TV set. That's because some new SD channels are now being added to HD multiplexes, meaning that you must have HD equipment to receive them.

For example, Talking Pictures is an SD broadcaster (on Freeview Channel 81) but I can't receive it with an SD Freeview TV. Similarly, Rishtey Europe (for Bollywood fans, like me) is transmitted in SD on Freeview Channel 77 but again (irritatingly) I can't receive it because its been placed on an HD multiplex. More new channels are likely to follow the same practice (because the HD multiplexes are the ones with spare capacity, even if the broadcasters are only using SD).

Hm, at the moment I have a Humax 9510T. It's been pretty good (ish) but I'm kinda losing faith. That said, I've had it a little while. Any models you can recommend, Humax or other?

I am also hoping to decide on a Freeview box. The ones so;d in supermarkets seem awful. The one I need to replace now was not bought that long ago and is having issues. I was informed Humax was supposed to be good but I've been unimpressed. The one I have in the bedroom has lasted, but never keeps the EPG data for long and the customer service agent said it was normal. Obviously one doesn't want to get one that results in paying for channels. I'm unsure a decent one exists. Seem to be all commodity standard stuff. Pile 'em high, sell them and be damned. Maybe if one pays out for an expensive recorder type ? I've been looking at Freeview Play types of late, but they're rather expensive too.

Yes mine was pretty useless at keeping the EPG too. It drove me round the twist untill I was told it was *normal* !!

The problem with "Bush" products is that is is just a brand name. The Bush company went bankrupt a few years ago and as it was a well known "name" Argos bought it (often the "names" of companies are bought when they are well known).

Now Argos just "badge" all sorts of products from all sorts of companies with the Bush name so you have no idea who made or if the quality is any good. They are only sold in Argos and Homebase.

While I don't have a Humax they always get a good reviews from Which magazine. And at least they are a "proper" company so have a quality level to try to keep up.
