No Tilly its for real ,they cost about 15 quid
i guess depends on price and the reason. No power near by? Nice idea but if you do have power near by I would make sure it can also run on mains as many digital radios are very efficient.
Yes, very wise....if you are expecting extensive power-cuts, or are moving somewhere without mains electricity. If not, I wouldn't bother.

So gingeibee you seem to have knowledge of these so your opinion is what I'm looking for and others who know first hand about them .Does the winding up power last long or do you have to wind it up very often ?
I have no personal experience, but regard them as a bit of a novelty...if you want one instead of a "battery-only" portable, then they're OK...I have some wind-up torches which are good for emergencies, but not as good as battery-powered ones. The higher you have the radio volume - the more you will have to wind it (or charge in daylight/sun). Don't expect too much for £15!

I take your advice Thanks
In my experience....definitely not.

If you are going to be listening to FM, then the life of operation in between windings won't be too bad, but on DAB its next to hopeless. I bought one to to use in my caravan and its lucky that its also mains-driven, as I would be winding the ruddy thing ever few minutes.

There are plenty of good quality radios around these....I have about 5 models from the PURE range, which I can't praise highly enough.

Can I recommend this one for instance :::

But I would forget about wind-ups if I were you !
mikey....post at 19.45 Mon clearly states that the radio being considered is AM/FM not DAB......
Ginge...there is no point whatsoever in buying a radio these days that can't be used on DAB, as well as the other methods.
