Had a notification on my phone( moto g - 3rd generation - 2015 ) yesterday that there was an update ready to be downloaded and installed

I duly downloaded and installed it .

The download was for updating from Android lollipop 5.1.1 to Marshmallow 6.0 ( which i did not know/ realise at the time )

It has now affected the battery performance quite drastically .
Before the update i remember looking at the battery info and it stated that there was 1 day +, battery charge remaining
Immediately after the update , the battery charge had reduced to around 12 hours .

A re-charge has not improved things back to the levels that i was getting before the update

Has anyone done this upgrade from lollipop to Marshmallow - have you experience this issue ?

Any tecchies out there who can shed some light on this ?

I can only guess but suspect that maybe more processes are running in the background so more power is needed and thus fewer hours worth of running time from a fully charged battery. Try running an app that can identify things you can close. Or maybe check all settings to see if you can spot stuff yourself.
I have just seen your post and can confirm that since my 'upgrade' to Marshmallow my battery usage has probably doubled using a Samsung Galaxy S6
