Can anyone help with this please? A message came on the screen at start-up. It said 'Out of memory at line 1657' Does anyone know what this means? Using Windows XP Home. Thanks in advance.

What are you actually doing when you get this message ?

If you go into google and type "out of memory at line" (make sure you include the quotes but dont include the line number) 

There are loads of people with similar problems, but doing different things.

I wasn't doing anything. I'd just turned it on and waited for it to go through start-up. That's when the message came on. I just clicked 'OK' and it went off.
Download a good anti-spyware application like SpyBot.
Do a scan for spyware.
