direct x install

when trying to install direct x 9.0c from disc on my kids pc which i downloaded as they are not on the net it asks for the destination folder to install to.does anyone know what i should type as even after doing a search i am not sure.

if i try to install it from a game disc while installing the game as soon as i try to install it it says finished almost immediatley without doing anything and 9.0b is still there..this happened after i installed service pack 2 from a disc as before this the game plyed ok and 9.0c was installed.i can't use restore as it won't go back.

Do a search on your computer for dxdiag.exe. You can run that and check which version of DirectX has been installed. This might be the folder to install to. My computer has dxdiag in two folders:- c:\windows\system32 and C:\I386. Hope this helps.

already tried the windows system32 folder but it still shows version 9.0b.c:\1386 seems not to exist.windows sp2 seems to be the culprit and as i can't do a system restore i will prob reformat it for them as they only have games on it.
