How Do I Wire A Replacement Slave Phone Socket

Hi,
A wire broke in a slave phone socket but rewiring a new one with the same configuration as the old isn't working. That was red in 2, blue in 3, green in 4 & white in 5. Have found a couple of others via Google, eg. 2 white, 3 blue, 4 green & 5 red. None are working. The master socket is enclosed so can't see those wires (if relevant).

Any suggestions ? Cheers

Seen that link before ZM, but unfortunately not relevant as the wires are colour coded differently.

Donny48, that socket's totally different to the one we're replacing. The new one's like an electric plug, putting the wires under a small screw. But what colour wire under which numbered screw ?

Maybe a photograph of the box and cable you have would help someone with telephone experience to advise ?

Tricky taking a pic at the moment ...
Had a quick look at some more videos but he seems to say wire it like for like, which was done but didn't work, or is only using 3 wires. But thanks for the suggestions :)

What do you mean by "the master socket is enclosed"? It has screws - yes?

Whether it's an old or new type, the colours should match pin for pin.

You have a non BT cable and extension socket. You only need the 2 line wires on terminals 2 & 5 if you are using microfilters, if you are not then you need a bell wire on terminal 3 as well. These wires should be connected to the same terminals in all sockets and the line wires on 2 & 5 need to be a twisted pair.

Thanks for the suggestions though he ended up getting an electrician round to look at it. Turned out the original config was right but the end of the wires were quite brittle & not connecting properly *doh*

This can be a problem. I was taught to give a slight tug to any connection I made and it is ingrained in me that I do it without thinking.
