Avg Anti-Virus Free

After a few years of good service I'm getting problems with the above progs.So I thought that I'd uninstall it and start again.But it won't let me do so, I've managed a few facets of it but not the complete article.Any ideas please.Thanks.

Anti-virus programs are deliberately difficult to get rid of (so that malware can't do it).

Use AVG Remover to get rid of it completely:

My usual thanks BC.I d/loaded the AVG Remover,every thing went ok till the last bit,it just wouldn't continue.I've also d/loaded the Avast everything seemed ok so I tried scanning my pc it said it wouldn't take long but an hour later it had only reached half way.So I've given up for now with no safe coverage.
