Log into the account. Click the cog wheel at the top right. Go to Managing Your Account > Account Details. Then look for Edit Display Name.
If the Display Name field is blank, or incorrectly set, simply fill in the correct details.
If the Display Name field is showing the correct name (even though it's not appearing in email headers) change it to something like Mickey Mouse. Send an email to yourself. Log out of Outlook.com. Log back in again and then change the name shown back to the correct one.
And then get a proper email account!

A good point, TC!
I've written before about the stupidity of Microsoft in using the same name for two different things. My answer above assumes that it's Outlook.com that's being referred to.
If the post refers to the email client called Outlook, go to File > Account Settings. Click on the email tab and then on the account name. Click on Change. If the Your Name field is blank, or incorrect, simply change it. If it's showing correctly, change it to Mickey Mouse (or similar), send yourself an email, close Outlook, re-open it and then enter the correct name.
