Printing Labels

Hi all

I want to send about 50 envelopes containing a questionnaire to 50 consecutive numbered addresses in the same street. I intend to print the addresses on A4 paper so that I can cut them out and glue them to the envelopes. I'd prefer not to use Avery labels due to the cost and anyway, I wouldn't have a clue how to set up my printer to print on the labels.

I have MSOffice 2016 on my PC. Is there some way I can use it to do what I propose? Would I need to use Word, Excel or Publisher to do the job? Could you please suggest the best way forward for me. Would some free software suit me better for this task?

I'd like to automate the whole thing so I don't have to enter the house numbers one by one. Surely the computer could print consecutive numbered labels for me without my intervention.

Open Word, click Mailings, then Labels.
Click options and then label vendor.
Click Avery.
Scroll down in product number to find L7160, double click. Click OK.
Then click New document.
This will give you 3 columns and 7 rows. Type in your address' and print on normal paper (the printer won't know that it's not labels in the drawer.

The only way I can think to get automatic numbers is to use Excel or mail merge. I haven't got time to go through that at the moment.

Why not print directly onto the envelope?

All the inkjet printers I have owned were capable of printing directly onto an envelope – it just took a bit of care (formatting the address text vertically) having the correct margin spacings, with the envelope placed in the correct orientation in the paper tray.

Then all you need do is change the house number for each envelope you print out.

That method would take hours where my printer was concerned.

Whereas it will print documents or letters with no problem whatsoever, when it comes to addressing an envelope it takes ages thinking about it, before it actually draws in the envelope so as to print on the address.

My Epson printers printed the envelopes faster than an A4 page - having very little text to print.

Once one envelope address is formatted correctly - it is easy to edit it for others.
