Problems With Mobile Phone

The last few months have been horrendous, up to 12 spam calls a day. It's got so bad I don't even look at my phone any more. I am considering getting a new SIM card that would give me a new number. But, I topped up my credit before we left home. I have currently £20 credit on it. If I got a new O2 SIM card the same as I have, is there any way to transfer the credit from my old number to a new number with the same provider?

I don't know the answer to transferring credit to a new number, but if you download the app 'Truecaller' from the Google Play Store, or Apple Store if an iPhone, you will not be plagued by spam calls if their phone numbers have been reported by other users (I've been using this app for a few years now, and can't remember the last time that a spam call has got through).

A bit of googling suggests that O2 Customer services can transfer your credit balance from one SIM to another (even if they're using different phone numbers) if you call them on 4445 from an 02 phone. (Calls are charged at a flat rate of 25p).

(Even if that information turns out to be wrong, it would be worth the call to get a definitive answer anyway).

PS: Although the system isn't perfect, have you registered your mobile number with TPS? (Many people register their landlines but forget that you also register mobiles).

I see an issue with using an external database. Even ignoring the speed needed to get a response and act on it. You need mobile data permanently on, or else you'd only filter call when logged on to a WiFi hotspot.

One can get apps that block calls anyway. I tried one once but stopped when I discovered I'd accidentally blocked all unknown numbers ! But if you only expect calls from friends/family check out the playstore or whatever.

OG - I generally have roaming data switched off on my mobiles, but Truecaller still blocks the calls if that number has been reported as spam.

Unknown numbers, such as minicabs calling from their mobiles to indicate that they are waiting outside, are not blocked but are indicated as unknown caller and show up in red in the call history. If you wish you can block the call later, which will then be added to Truecalller's database as spam.

I'll check it out then. It must download the number database to your phone. Got a spam call yesterday. Apparently there's a rumour going around that I've been in a car accident that wasn't my fault. I couldn't be bothered with it: they were paying for the call so I just put the phone down and left them to it.

Hmmm it looks like it wants to take over as dialler rather than add value unobtrusively in the background. I see many unhappy about the latest update.

OG - I use my phones installed diallers (including my second phone which is used as a hands free in the car), only using Truecaller to intercept incoming calls (got one today according to the "Blocked" history, but my phone didn't ring, from 'We compare it' , a supposed life insurance salesman caller from Carmarthen which 331 people have reported to Truecaller as spam.
