My Toshiba laptop is quite old and I would like a new one. I have only ever had Toshiba but I am open to suggestions. I use my laptop for emails, shopping, Facebook and of course, the answerbank! I have quite a lot of photos which I like to add to. Any suggestions for my next laptop? TIA

I still like Lenovo, except for somewhat highish prices. http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/laptop-brand-ratings Hans.

One of my employers has given me the following, and I am very impressed with it, especially the battery life !

http://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/edge-series/ThinkPad-E570/p/22TP2TEE570

Its also very light and has a touch screen, if you need it, but it will work perfectly well with a mouse which is my preferred method.
The following thread could be of interest to you :-

I would add that the bigger the screen the better and, similar to mikey, I prefer to use a mouse.

Thank you both that gives me something to think about!

I have looked at lenovo, they appear to be fairly cheaply constructed, not very robust, have a liking for HP and Toshiba.

Thanks Hans, that guide will be most helpful!
Hans....this Lenovo laptop that I have is still quite new, and I have only been using since the middle of March. But it seems very well built to me. I have managed to get it to last 6 hours in between charging !

I am not really a fan of touchscreens, as I find them slow and sometimes very unresponsive. However, the Lenovo comes with a stylus that slips into the side of the keyboard, and would appear to be "powered" as it has two battery contacts on it that must re-charge it when in situ.....not seen that before !
Depends how much you want to spend crapm. I have the Which April 2017 guide in my hand and the recommendations are as follows.

Up to £250
1. Asus E200 @ 73%
2. Asus Eeebook 403 @ 72%
3. Asus Transformer Book T101 @ 71%
4. HP Pavilion X2 @ 70%
5. Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Series (non convertible) @ 68%

The next tier is £250 - £600. Let me know if you want that and I will copy it out for you. Hope this helps.

Any chance you could look up in the which guide - their recommendations for dash cams , please ?
For example why I dislike Lenovo the power socket was glued to the motherboard The screen hinge broke within a year with very little usage. When it was opened up the hinge anchor point was very flimsy and constructed in such a way that when it broke it knocked the glued in power socket off the motherboard.
What's your price range Bazile?
ladybirder
I haven't got one as such .
If they lists their recommendations in price ranges , then the recommendations in each range please
Can I make a suggestion here ?

If you have a branch of PC World near you, then take a trip and have a good look at the laptops on show. I am not suggesting that you necessarily buy one from there, but I can't think of anywhere else when you can have good prod about and a browse. Buying on spec. is all OK but you can't really beat holding one and seeing if its the one for you.
Here you go Bazile. I've given you the 5 BBs. There are lots more Don't Buys so if you decide to get one I haven't mentioned tell me what it is and I'll check it's not a DB:-)

Best Buys
NextBase In-Car Cam 312GW Deluxe - scores 72% circa £84.
NextBase In-Car Cam 212 Lite - scores 71% circa £69.
NextBase In-Car Cam 512G Ultra - scores 71% circa £161.
NextBase In-Car Cam 412GW - scores 70% circa £129.
NextBase In-Car Cam 402G Profesional - scores 70% - £132.

Don't Buy
Garmin Dash-Cam 30 - 35% - £134.32
Roadhawk HG2 - 42% - £225
NextBase In-Car Cam Duo Twin Cam - 44% - £199
Thinkware X150 - 35% - £150.
NextBase In-Car Cam 101 Go - 38% circa £49.

Thank you very much .
just out of interest - how does the %tage scoring work ?

( once again , sorry crapmemory
Bazile - Halfords are pushing dashcams this weekend - Nextbase 512G (I have one) is £139.
This is all C&P Bazile. There is loads of it but I can't do it all. Here are the headline bits which will give you a good idea of what they do. Sorry cm.

We put dash cams to the test to find models with great footage that are a breeze to use. Only the very best earn our Best Buy award.

What makes a Best Buy dash cam?
Is it easy to install the device in the car?
How good is the footage during the day and at night?
What features does the dash cam have?
How easy is it to view the footage you capture?
Should I buy it?

The score is broken down as follows: 65% Performance 30% Ease of use 5% Features

Thanks again ladybirder
Also for that bhg481
