I have bought a holiday home in Wales and need internet access when I am there for myself and family. I bought an EE mini wifi box but it will not work there. I am on Vodafone and can get a signal there but it is not always a good one. I am not very technically minded so if anyone can advise what they would do, I would be very grateful

Could you put a landline in?
Is there a telephone line connected to the holiday home
If there is, then check with BT if "Fibre-to-the-Cabinet" is available in that area ( I am happy to explain what that means if you so wish )

If the place doesn't have a telephone line, again, enquire with BT what kind of internet speed you could expect.

As for Mobile internet use, again, it depends on the locality. Lots of rural areas in Britain don't have very good Mobile coverage for phone use, let alone internet access, especially if sheep outnumber humans !

No, there is no BT line, and we aren't allowed Sky dishes either. I have SkyGo so if I could get a decent internet connection I could watch that aswell .
Thankyou
sretiolc...as far as I know, internet access doesn't come from any Sky dish, so its either a Mobile link, or a telephone line.

Your best bet is to contact BT and explain your situation.

If you intend to rent this property out, when you are not using it, then a good internet connection would make it very attractive to potential renters.

Thanks Mikey
No, it's only for ourselves and family but we do need internet access for work while we are there. It's a Mobile home on a site. They have wifi but only in their office.
Are you allowed to put a landline in? If so, well worth doing. If you can't get a good phone signal it will be hopeless trying to get mobile internet via 4G.
Question Author
Unfortunately no landlines allowed either
Well, its looking promising then !

Ask the site owners what kind of speed they are getting.

Use this link to find out more about the site owners speed....all you need to is to input the telephone number.

https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband-packages/

It will give you a good idea what speeds you will get, if you install a telephone line.

I have a caravan on a site in Cornwall, and they allow people to "log into" their wifi...perhaps these people will do the same !
If you can't get a 4G signal in your mobile home, there is nothing you can do. Very frustrating, but I would have checked before I bought.
sretiolc Where about is it? BT hotspots are a possibility.
BT hotspots use wifi from other users, so if the mobile home is not within range of a property that is connected to BT and allows hotspotting (it is possible to opt out) then it won't work.
If sretiolc(cloisters) tells us where it is, maps of BT hotspots with Fon will show if it is possible. You do not need a dedicated sharer in some areas as most BT subscribers are part of the Fon wifi set up.

Would I need to be a BT customer though Togo ? (I'm not)
Yes, you would. You can find out if there is a BT hotspot available in your mobile home simply by using your mobile phone to search for wifi connections.
Virgin provide a similar service for their Virgin customers
I'd ask a few people also on the site if they have found a work round.
sretiolc....sorry I missed your info about no landlines.

Well, its looking like a Mobile signal then, and best of luck with that !

You may already have a dongle but if you don't, then go onto the Mobile phone websites and see what kind of coverage you will get.

When I am in my 'van, down near Lands End, I can use the Wifi that the site provides but it really isn't any good, soI use a Three Network Dongle. It gives me a reasonable service, but nothing like as good as home, of course. Different Mobile networks have different coverage, so go to them all, and put the postcode of the site into their search engines and see what network would be the best.

Mobile connection can also be rather pricey, if you need a lot of access, so best luck with that !
No sretiols yo can log on and pay on a daily or weekly basis but it is an expensive way to do it.

Pop the postcode in the box to see if there is a BT hotspot at the mobile home
